A waiting person is a patient person. The word patience means the willingness to stay where we are and live the situation out to the full in the belief that something hidden there will manifest itself to us.” ~ Henri J.M. Nouwen
So just a short entry today to let you all know that our trip has been postponed and as of now we do not have a new appointment date yet. As I type that I can hear the collective sigh of disappointment… and, perhaps, a few sighs of relief. We are feeling a little of both but mostly disappointment and a little bit of helplessness.
As this past week wore on, it was looking more and more likely that we would not be traveling this weekend. And surprisingly it had nothing to do with the conflict and everything to do with paperwork. When a child is in foster care, there are extra hurdles to get over and the folks who pave the way have changed with the new regime. So, some of the faces that were familiar to our facilitator are no longer there and she does not have a relationship with the new folks. However, we learned yesterday that we have some high-ups on our side and hopefully that will mean that we get the paperwork that we need.
So, while it is better that we are not making the trip without the necessary paperwork in place, this was very disappointing news but we are hopeful that it will just be a delay of 2-3 weeks. We should receive an answer on Tuesday and our facilitator is optimistic that she has gotten through to the appropriate folks. She and Max’s foster mother have spent much of this week talking with folks and trying to convince them that Max’s future depends on this adoption.
So we continue to try to find that ever elusive balance of optimism, reality, hope, acceptance and perseverance… and we wait…
